Turn of phone screening to block spam

Go to Settings > Apps > Phone and scroll down.

1. Screen Unknown Callers (the “make them prove they’re human” option)

Under Screen Unknown Callers, select Never, Ask Reason for Calling, or Silence. apple

Ask Reason for Calling is the one you want. These calls are screened: the caller is asked why they’re calling before your phone even rings. Then your phone rings and shows a transcript of the caller’s answer, so you can decide whether to pick up. A robodialer can’t answer a question, so it just dies quietly. Silence is the scorched-earth option. It automatically silences these calls and sends them to voicemail. It’s effective, but every unknown caller, spam or not, has to leave a message.

2. Spam detection

Under Call Filtering, turn on Spam. Calls identified as spam or fraud by your phone service provider are silenced, sent to voicemail, and moved to your Spam list.

3. Filter unknown callers into their own bin

In that same Call Filtering section, turn on Unknown Callers. Missed calls and voicemails from unknown numbers are moved to your Unknown Callers list. To check that list, tap the Filter button, then tap Unknown Callers in the Phone app.
